| The picture includes John Crihfield, Owen Crihfield, Dan Lowry, Dave Lowry, and Percifield. This was after John and Owen had gone undefeated at a debate tournement (4 and 0) down in Bloomington, I believe, in late winter 1969. I remember how spring-like it was in southern Indiana in February, at the time when it was still bone-chilling cold up north. That was the first time a CHS team had ever gone undefeated. It was at that point that CHS joined the elite among Indiana high school debate teams. Also were second-runners up in the state championship in 1970. We lost in the semi-finals to Terre Haute in a split decision (2 to 1), who won the championship, beating Munster, who we had already beaten in the Regional finals. I believe that Terre Haute went on to win, or was second or third, at nationals. We were also second-runners up in the national district champtionship, which included parts of Indiana and Michigan. The team that beat us also went on to nationals.
We came that close to being CHS`s first state championship team, and the first CHS team to advance to national.
